Manchester United arrives in Perth for a 10-day, 2-game stay
PERTH: Manchester United arrived in Perth for a 10-day visit that includes two friendlies, a day of corporate golf and a soccer clinic with disadvantaged children.
State government officials expect about 20,000 fans of the world's most famous football team to follow.
English Premier League The team arrived on Monday before their first game on Saturday against Perth Glory of the A-League. On July 17, Leeds United will be the opposition at the same stadium in Perth.
On Tuesday, the Manchester United Twitter feed showed players signing autographs at the airport and others walking through the state capital of Western Australia.
State officials said the team will also participate in a training session in front of some 14,000 fans, attend a dinner at the stadium and participate in other corporate functions.
Prime Minister Mark McGowan said that most of the expected tourists in the city are from Britain.
`` They will not only watch football. They'll go shopping, they'll go to restaurants, they can spend a vacation near WA, '' McGowan said.
He did not disclose what the state government paid to bring the team to the city.
`` He does not disclose what he bid or what he pays because then he gives his competitors a competitive advantage when he makes an offer for something else, '' he said. So these things always remain relatively secret.
