Delhi: One more detained in the temple vandalizing case
NEW DELHI: He said on Thursday that they arrested one more person in connection with the vandalism of a temple in, which had led to community tension in the area.
With this, the total number of people arrested in the case reached 10, including 4 young people, they said, adding that there are likely to be more arrests while searching for other suspects.
On Sunday night, a mob destroyed a temple in the Hauz Qazi area after a fight between two people for parking a scooter that took a community turn. The tension has been reduced since then.
A senior police official said that the presence of security in the areas has been reduced considerably. However, security personnel deployed to Chawri Bazaar on Thursday for the Jagannath procession.
On Tuesday, police arrested three people, including a child, and a day later, they arrested six others, including three children.
A delegation of BJP leaders from Delhi, including its former president Vijay Goel, met Thursday with Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik and demanded a thorough investigation into the matter. The Delhi BJP unit has also asked the police to treat the minors, involved in the incident, as adults.
