6.3-foot-long worm extracted from the intestine of man in Haryana

KAITHAL: A doctor in a city hospital removed a patient, who is a native of the village of Pega, on Wednesday.

Dr. Devender Panwar, a surgeon who performed the operation successfully in a private hospital, said the patient approached them on Tuesday night and when they examined him, it came out that his bowel was damaged and was taken away from him. Immediate to the operating room. .

During the disinfection of his intestine, the worm that had a length of about 6.3 feet was taken alive. This type of worms are nourished in the body by consuming foods such as pork in half and unwashed vegetables, he added.

The doctor stated that the scientific name of the worm was taenia solium, which remains in the body for at least 25 years and can lead to epilepsy at a later stage. However, the patient is stable and under observation, he added. He stated that the worm can also cause death, since it affects the brain, which weakens the body. He added that all vegetables should be washed properly before eating them.

Panwar said that even a CT scan, ultrasound and other equipment could not identify the worm in the body. I did not even have the idea of the worm and, when an X-ray was taken, it was discovered that part of the intestine had been removed and an operation was needed immediately. Later, when I saw the hole in the intestine and examined it minutely, I came to know about the worm, that it was alive. He was withdrawn immediately, he said.

The doctor added that some time ago, the same type of worm, about 6 feet long, was removed from another patient through the mouth at Sir Gangaram Hospital in Delhi. These types of cases are rare in the country, he said.

Speaking with mediators, Ravi, the patient, said that he had had a fever for fifteen days and that he had gone to several hospitals for the same but no one could solve his problem.

I approached the PGIMS, Rohtak, since my body had started to refuse the food, but all failed to diagnose the problem. Meanwhile, I got to know a hospital where I was finally able to diagnose and eliminate the worm, he added.
