Canadian Open: Ajay Jayaram, Sourabh Verma and Lakshya Sen enter the second round
CALGARY: Indian trio of Ajay Jayaram , Sourabh Verma and Lakshya Sen advanced to the second round of men's singles after recording contrasting victories on the day of the opening of the competition in Canadian Open Super 100 tournament .
Jayaram, former No. 13 in the world, recovered from a depression in the middle of the game to outsmart Huang Guoxing 21-15, 20-22, 21-15, Huang Guoxing, and established a showdown with the fifth favorite. Rajiv Ouseph of England below.
The national champion Sourabh and junior Asian champion Lakshya, however, did not have to break the sweat, as they prevailed in consecutive games over their respective opponents.
While Sourabh beat Canada's Antonio Li 21-18 21-13, Lakshya defeated Englishman Chun Kar Lung 21-7 21-8 in another match in the first round.
Sourabh will face BR Sankeerth of Canada, while Lakshya meets China's Weng Hong Yang.
Among other Indians in action the second day, former champion of the Commonwealth Games and sixth seed Parupalli Kashyap will face Frenchman Lucas Corvee, while the third seed HS Prannoy He will face the Japanese Koki Watanabe.
Both Kashyap and Prannoy had received a bye in the first round.
