The preliminary test of the 2021 Census will be held from August 12 to September 30

NEW DELHI: A pre-test of the trial will take place throughout the country from August 12 to September 30 of this year, announced the Secretary General and Commissioner Vivek Joshi.

The reference date for the census is October 1, 2020 for Jammu and Kashmir and the areas of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, where snow is found, while for the rest of the country it is March 1, 2021.

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 17A of the Census Act, 1948 (37 of 1948), the central government extends the provisions of said Act, to carry out a preliminary test of the Indian Census, 2021.

The preliminary test will be conducted from August 12, 2019 to September 30, 2019 in all states and territories of the Union, Joshi said in a notice.

For the first time in the 140-year history of the census in India, it is proposed that data be collected through a mobile application and census takers will be encouraged to use their own telephone.

The 2021 census will be the largest enumeration exercise in the world, said one official.

A total of 33 lakh enumerators, the people who do the door-to-door counting, will be mobilized to collect data for which a notification has already been issued.

The Interior Minister of the Union, Rajiv Gauba, had said that the census is not only a counting exercise, but also provides invaluable socioeconomic data that form a credible basis for the formulation of informed policies and the allocation of resources.

La Gauba had said that the changing demographic and socioeconomic parameters reflected in the census help reformulate the country's plans for economic development and welfare plans for its population.

The 2021 Census will be carried out in two phases. In the first phase, the house listing operations will be carried out in the two months that the states choose between April and September of 2020.

In the second phase, the real enumeration of the population would take place from 9 to 28 February 2021, followed by the revision round from March 1 to 5, 2021.

In Jammu and Kashmir and in the areas of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, where the snow is carried out, the enumeration of the population will take place from September 11 to 30, 2020, followed by the revision round from October 1 to 5, 2020 .
