TV actors take bikes to avoid public transportation and stay fit

With gyms closed for more than three months due to continued coronavirus pandemic , exercise enthusiasts have turned to home remedies to stay active and fit. While some practice yoga, others exercise hands-free in addition to maintaining a healthy diet. Now some of the players in the Bengali television industry have taken cycling as an effective form of exercise. Not only do they travel for long hours, but they've even started biking to filming locations.

Television actor Uday Pratap Singh , who was advised by the doctor to ride a bicycle when he had knee surgery two years back, has been rigorously cycling now given the fact that vehicles are much less in number on the roads due to the partial block . He said: I have been riding my bicycle to keep my knees flexible, but during the closure I increased the kilometers of my trip since there were hardly many cars on the road. I live in Madhyamgram , and I often go to Ballygunge Phari early in the morning to meet one of my closest friends. Now that the confinement has relaxed a little, I will also meet my fiancée, who stays in Nager Bazar, about 10 km from my house.

Uday also shared that cycling for him has been therapeutic and is one of the best forms of workout since the gyms are all shut. “Your car or your bike won't give you that kick, which you derive from riding a bicycle. It is therapeutic. I also want to go for a long-distance cycle ride with my fiancée but it's not safe in Kolkata as you don't have specified cycling lanes,” he added.


On the other hand, actor Dwaipayan Das , who stays in south Kolkata, is now taking his bicycle to his shooting location as the studio is not much far from his home. He said, “I normally avail public transport to head to the studio but that’s a risky option now, more so because my son is just one-year-old and I have to be extra cautious. So, I am riding my bicycle to work. Not only does it help me save money, my daily workout is also taken care of and there's zero carbon footprint. So, cycling is my new passion as of now.”

Even actor Anindya Chatterjee , who is known to be fitness enthusiast, has also been cycling since the lockdown. He said, "In the initial days of the lockdown, I wasn't working out at all and my diet too went for a toss. But soon I realized that I am gaining a lot of weight and slowly started doing free-hand exercise at home. But after a few days, I bought the bicycle and I have been riding every evening since then and that's the only form of workout I am doing these days. I am practicing hard so that once things get back to normal, I am able to take part in cycling marathons."
