Too early to compare Babar Azam and Virat Kohli, feel Younis Khan
KARACHI: former captain of Pakistan Younis Khan feel Babar Azam cannot be compared to Virat Kohli at the moment, as he still has a long way to go. Babar, 25, was recently appointed ODI captain of Pakistan. He was already the T20 skipper on the side.
While 31-year-old Kohli is widely regarded as the world's current best hitter in all formats, Babar has been hailed by commentators and experts as the next big thing in hitting.
You see, Kohli, now 31 and at the peak of his career, has been in the international world Cricket for over a decade and has proven its worth in all conditions. The 70 international centuries he has marked are a testament to his class and abilities, Younis said according to Gulf News.
Babar, on the other hand, made his international debut just five years ago. It already has 16 centuries under its belt and shows very good averages in both Tests and ODI, but it will be unfair to start comparing the two at this time. If you have to compare Babar in five years (from now on) with the dominance that Kohli shows in his game today, he added.
Younis further said that Babar's eagerness to learn will take him far.
Babar made his debut during the last two or three years of my career and I was very impressed by his humility. I always felt that the more humble you are, you can achieve bigger goals in your life, he said.
It is a young team that has to lead, although there may be some older players for it. You have to be protective of the equipment and carry it forward, he advised.
