Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation settles charges for Covid-19 patients in private hospitals

AHMEDABAD: The (AMC) has acquired 50% of the beds in private medical hospitals and has designated 42 hospitals throughout the city for the treatment of patients with Covid-19. the AMC It also increased hospital charges by almost 150% compared to those set by the state government through a notification dated April 16, 2020.

The new rate ranges from Rs 4,500 to Rs 11,250 for a patient-occupied bed, an increase of 150% compared to the government resolution of April 16, 2020. However, the rate of unoccupied beds has remained unchanged changes.



Rajiv Gupta, additional chief secretary (ACS), forest&environment who has been appointed as overall incharge of activities to control further spread of Covid-19 pandemic in Ahmedabad said that the government resolution was meant for the entire State. However, considering the mega city of Ahmedabad, it was felt that the rates should be different. After detailed deliberation with the principal secretary (health), senior officers of the state Government, Municipal Commissioner and representative of AMA. it has been decided that all the Private Hospitals designated as Covid-19 Hospitals shall provide 50% of the total number of Beds in such hospital for patients to be referred by AMC and rest 50% shall be admitted and treated privately on their own ”

He said that the rates for 50% Government Beds referred by AMC will range from Rs 720 to Rs 1,800 for empty bed and Rs 4500 to Rs 11,250 for a bed occupied by the patients. Gupta said that the rates will not include the not include cost of medicine Tocilizumab, special doctors visit fee. specialized lab test and dialysis.

Gupta said that no private hospital within the AMC limit. whether designated or not as Covid-19 Hospital, is permitted to charge above the ceiling rates prescribed by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and it was also decided that the nurses will continue to discharge their duties at the same hospital as before and no change in hospital will be allowed without prior permission of AMC.
