Covid-19: Assam brings quarantine centers to village, neighborhood levels

GUWAHATI: The government is taking quarantine centers to the village and neighborhood levels to accommodate all citizens returning from the state from abroad in their places of origin.

The state government has prepared a three-tier agreement to establish quarantine facilities, beginning with quarantine centers at the district headquarters level, followed by centers at the assembly constituency level, and finally centers at the village and neighborhood level.

The health department has issued an order to initiate the formation of the village-level Initiation Committee in rural areas by the respective block development officer, with the chairman of gaon panchayat as chairman. Similarly, the respective Deputy Commissioner will notify the Neighborhood-Level Home Quarantine Administration Committee in urban areas with the circle officer or assistant commissioner as president.

Each committee will decide whether the returnee will be quarantined at his residence or at the local community center, taking into account that in the event that the person stays at his residence, it will become a containment area for all residents of that house.

The committee will also be responsible for providing food supplies, hygiene, security, medical arrangements, etc. in the home and community center where the quarantined person resides.

For the home, which has been completely converted into a containment area, the district administration will provide food (according to notified government regulations) for the quarantine period directly to the quarantine families or through the committee.

Currently, returnees are quarantined in five zonal centers and each center for persons belonging to demarcated districts in the zone. While those in the districts of the lower Assam region are quarantined and in Dhubri, those belonging to districts in central Assam are quarantined in Guwahati and, similarly, the center of Tezpur is for those in northern Assam, Jorhat for those belonging to the Upper Assam Districts and Silchar for Barak Valley Districts.

The wise Quarantine Management Committee of the constituency will be chaired by the local MLA and the Prime Minister Sarbananda Sonowal He has personally written to all MLAs who cross party lines to lead the fight in their respective areas.

The constituency level committees will prepare institutional quarantine centers in the constituency area that can span multiple blocks and villages and will also manage food supplies, hygiene, security, medical arrangements, etc. quarantined facilities
