The death toll from Covid-19 increases to 2,752; cases rise to 85,940: ministry of health

NEW DELHI: The number of Covid-19 deaths rose to 2,752 and the number of cases rose to 85,940 on Saturday, registering an increase of 103 deaths and 3,970 cases in the past 24 hours, according to the Union Ministry of Health.

The number of active cases was 53,035, while 30,152 people recovered and one patient migrated, he said.

Thus, about 35.08 percent of patients have recovered so far, said a senior health ministry official.

The total of confirmed cases also includes foreign citizens.

Of the 103 deaths reported since Friday morning, 49 were in Maharashtra, 20 in Gujarat, 10 in, eight in Delhi, seven in Uttar Pradesh, five in Tamil Nadu, two in Madhya Pradesh, one in Himachal Pradesh.

Of the 2,752 deaths, Maharashtra tops the list with 1,068 deaths, Gujarat is second with 606 deaths, followed by Madhya Pradesh in 239, West Bengal in 225, Rajasthan in 125, Delhi in 123, Uttar Pradesh in 95, Tamil Nadu in 71 and Andhra Pradesh at 48.

The death toll reached 36 in Karnataka, 34 in Telangana and 32 in, the ministry said.

Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir have reported 11 deaths each from the disease, while Bihar has recorded seven and Kerala has reported four deaths.

Jharkhand, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh and Odisha have recorded three deaths from COVID-19 each, while two deaths have been reported.

Meghalaya, Uttarakhand and Puducherry have each reported one death, according to ministry data.

More than 70 percent of deaths are due to comorbidities (existence of multiple disorders), the ministry added.
