79% of Covid cases were concentrated in 30 municipal regions.
NEW DELHI: Up to 79% of the more than 81,000 confirmed cases in India are concentrated in 30 municipal regions, prompting the government to focus on containment measures, locating contacts and disease management in regions that report peak cases and deaths due to illness.
Analysts said positivity and mortality rates remained high in Gujarat and Delhi and that they needed more aggressive screening and contact testing. The positivity rate in Mumbai, in particular, is a cause of persistent concern.
The group of ministers led by the health minister met on Friday to assess readiness and review the situation with the ministry, making a presentation on the current scenario worldwide and in India.
Worldwide, Covid-19 cases are 42.48 lakh with a death rate of 6.92%, while India's death rate is 3.23%. So far, 27,920 people have been cured and 1,685 have recovered in the past 24 hours, bringing the recovery rate to 34.06%.
