UP CM orders the creation of thana-level teams to ensure that migrant workers do not travel on foot

LUCKNOW: The chief minister on Friday ordered state officials to set up teams at the police station level to ensure that no migrant worker travels on foot, by bicycle or in an unsafe manner. The Prime Minister gave this direction amid increasing cases of loss of life in traffic accidents as they marched back home.

In holding a lockdown review meeting with senior officials, Adityanath also called on authorities to take strict action against trucks and other unsafe vehicles carrying migrant workers.

Stressing that the state government was sensitive to the plight of workers, the prime minister said arrangements are being made to ensure that migrants can return home safely.

He instructed state government employees to adopt a sympathetic attitude towards migrant workers and provide them with all possible help, he said that as soon as they enter the state, they must be provided with food and water and must be examined before sending them on their trip .

It is the responsibility of the district administration to provide all facilities to migrants and any laxity in this will not be tolerated, the CM told officials.

He also called on officials to contact the police chiefs of the states concerned to request that they not allow any migrant worker to embark on a truck trip and ensure that they use the bus or train for it.

Adityanath also requested district authorities to arrange for an adequate number of buses to carry migrants arriving by train to their home districts.

In the event that UPSRTC buses are not available, private or school buses could also be used while providing the necessary protective equipment, such as masks, gloves, disinfectants for drivers, drivers, and security personnel deployed on these buses. , said.

In view of the large number of migrant workers returning to the state, the prime minister also called for strengthening quarantine centers and community kitchens while ensuring that non-vegetarian food or intoxicating beverages were not used in the quarantine centers.

The prime minister also ordered to increase police patrols and ensure strict compliance with the confinement, social distancing and periodic review of the situation, the spokesman said.

Adityanath also ordered to assess the availability of workers in Noida and restart industrial units there, the spokesperson said, adding that he also requested to encourage women's self-help groups to make and sell face masks.

Referring to the special economic package announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make the country self-sufficient and deal with the situation arising from it, the prime minister said that he would soon hold a meeting with senior officials to discuss how to effectively implement it in UP for MSMEs, electricity sector, migrant workers and farmers.

To make loans to street vendors under the package, a 'mela' loan must be arranged, added the chief minister.
