20 recent Covid-19 deaths reported in Delhi; toll crosses 100, total cases about 8,000
NEW DELHI: Delhi reported 20 recent deaths due to the death toll from coronavirus infection in the national capital at 106, according to city government authorities.
The total number of in the national capital on Wednesday rose to 7,998 with 359 new cases.
In the first week of May, the city also posted its largest single-day increase of 448 new Covid-19 cases.
In a bulletin released Wednesday, they said the 20 recent reported deaths took place in April and May according to case sheets received from hospitals and audited by him.
However, it also carried a footnote, which stated that certain figures mentioned in the bulletin were subject to change upon receipt of additional information.
On Tuesday, the total number of cases was 7,639 with 86 deaths. With 20 more deaths, the death toll from Covid-19 in Delhi has risen to 106.
Of the total deaths to date, 86 occurred in various hospitals dedicated to COVID-19, with the RML Hospital representing 41 of these deaths, the highest among dedicated hospitals, according to the bulletin, which added that the others took place in other hospitals.
Deaths recorded to date at other dedicated Covid-19 facilities are: LNJP Hospital (19), Apollo Hospital (8), Sir Ganga Ram Kolmet Hospital (5), Max Hospital, Saket (5), Safdarjung Hospital (4) , AIIMS (Delhi and Jhajjhar) (2) and Rajiv Gandhi Super Specialty Hospital (2), according to the bulletin.
Of the total number of deceased patients, 58 were 60 years or older, representing more than 54 percent of deaths here.
Twenty-eight of them were between the ages of 50 and 59 and 20 were under the age of 50, according to the bulletin.
Facing criticism for failing to report Covid-19 deaths, the Delhi government on Sunday issued the standard operating procedure (SOP) for hospitals and other health facilities in the city by reporting deaths from coronavirus.
Delhi Chief Secretary Vijay Dev issued an order in conjunction with the SOP that all COVID-19 hospitals and other facilities will send a 'death report' to the government by email by 5 PM every day .
Up to 2,858 patients have so far recovered, while there are 5,034 active cases, the Delhi health department said.
A total of 1.13,345 tests for Covid-19 have been carried out to date, he said.
The total number of Covid-19 positive patients under home isolation is 1,113, he said.
According to the Delhi Health Department bulletin, of the total of 7,998 cases registered so far, at least 1,634 are admitted to various hospitals such as LNJP Hospital, RML Hospital, Safdarjung Hospital, Rajiv Gandhi Super Specialty Hospital (RGSSH) and AIIMS Jhajjhar, adding that 114 of them are in ICU and 14 in ventilators.
The number of containment areas in Delhi has been reduced to 81.
