I had three contracts when I joined the coaching role on the J&K team: Irfan Pathan

NEW DELHI: Former brand from India Irfan Pathan on Saturday revealed that when he joined Jammu and Kashmir As a mentor-coach cricket team, he had three different contracts that would have earned him considerable money.

The left-handed bowler said this during an off-road live Instagram session Suresh Raina today, when they asked him to share his experience of coaching the J&kteam.

"When I got the offer from Jammu and Kashmir , then I had three contracts in my pocket. One I denied on the spot. the other was from Caribbean Premier League (CPL) and the last one was from the T10 League. All they demanded of me was that I retire, Pathan explained.

"There was no better opportunity for me to serve Jammu and Kashmir cricket. the players needed me more there. I have worked hard with them from morning to night. I have seen children bowling on turf wicket in canvas shoes. All of them were talented player," he added.

Raina said: "During your two-year stint as head coach with Jammu and Kashmir , the team's graph went high. I have played there and followed state cricket. I felt very good that you went to the state, which was overlooked before."

the Chennai Super Kings Batsman said he has seen improvement in the team after Pathan's involvement.

"During a match, the planning and discipline of the team impressed me. the way you supported them was amazing," he added.

Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) roped in Pathan to play the role of player-cum-mentor for the state's senior team in 2018. Then the state team decided to extend his services by one year as coach-cum-mentor in 2019.

the speedster further stated that a few names from the state team, who will surely become great players one day.

If J&K cricket has to prove success in the future, then there is no better leader than Shubham Pundir. Shubham Khajuria is the best hitter in the state. He is the second Rayadu (Ambati Rayudu). Salim Mustafa and Rasikh Salam have a great future ahead, Pathan said.

Pathan announced his retirement from all forms of cricket in January this year. Meanwhile, Raina would have been in action for Chennai Super Kings if the IPL had commenced from March 29.

However, the tournament was suspended indefinitely due to the coronavirus pandemic.
