Williams says safety comes first, but F1 teams must compete to survive

LONDON: Williams will put safety first despite team being one of several whose survival depends on Formula One start competing again, deputy director Claire williams said.

Speaking in a Sky Sports 'vodcast' with drivers George Russell and Nicholas Latifi Williams made it clear coronavirus The pandemic posed an existential threat.

The Liberty Media-owned sport hopes to kick off its delayed 2020 season with two grand prizes in Austria in July.

Da miedo que no solo puedas perder uno o dos equipos, sino muchos equipos si no vuelves a competir, said. El modelo financiero que tenemos en nuestro deporte es que todos dependemos tanto del dinero que recibimos de los resultados en el campeonato de constructores.

Once-dominant family-run Williams finished last in 2019, scoring just one point, and are one of the more vulnerable teams on the starting grid although Formula One is their core business.

Williams said he had to balance the need to return to competition to ensure his team's survival against the very important reality of ensuring that his people remain safe.

For me, at the end of the day, my people will always win, he added. I certainly hope that doesn't cost our team, but the safety of our people, whether it's getting them back to work in Grove or asking them to travel, will be absolutely paramount.

Formula One managing director Ross Brawn this week outlined plans for going back to racing, with health checks and isolation in the paddock, and believed the sport could provide a safe environment.

"Everybody will be tested and will have a clearance before they even go into the paddock, and then every two days they'll be tested whilst in the paddock and that will be with an authorised authority and consistent," he said.

Tendremos restricciones sobre cómo se mueven las personas. No podemos distanciar socialmente a un equipo, no podemos tener personal socialmente distanciado, said. Así que tenemos que crear un entorno que, dentro de sí mismo, sea efectivamente una pequeña burbuja de aislamiento.

"And the teams will stay within their own groups. They won't mingle with other teams, and they'll stay at their own hotels."
