Odisha reports the second death of Covid-19

BHUBANESWAR: Reported the second death of Covid-19 in the state after an elderly man infected with the virus died while receiving treatment here, the health department said on Wednesday.

A 77-year-old male Covid-19 patient from Bhubaneswar, who had underlying co-morbidities of hypertension, diabetes and kidney disease, died Tuesday at the (KIMS), the health department said.

The first death in the state caused by Covid-19 was reported on April 6 when a 72-year-old man died during treatment at AIIMS, Bhubaneswar. The deceased from the Jharpada area in Bhubaneswar was admitted to AIIMS on April 4 with a complaint of respiratory distress.

Meanwhile, the number of Covid-19 positive cases in Odisha has risen to 177 with the detection of one more case after an 18-year-old man and a Surat returnee tested positive, the health department said.

Of the 177 cases, 115 are active while 60 people have so far recovered.
