158 CRPF staff, 69 BSF, 46 ITBP tested positive for Covid-19 so far

NEW DELHI: A total of 158 from CRPF, 69 from BSF, 46 from ITBP and 9 from CISF have tested positive for Covid-19 so far. One positive staff for Covid-19, each from CRPF and ITBP, died and two from CRPF and BSF recovered, according to statistics available Tuesday.

Both the CRPF and the BSF were disinfected on Monday after two people assigned to the CRPF headquarters and 1 to the BSF headquarters tested positive. Two senior CRPF and BSF officials to whom two infected staff were assigned were quarantined.

The infection is most rampant in the CRPF, with a total of 152 people who tested positive in Delhi alone, of whom one who was 55 and had concomitant conditions had already succumbed. So far, 3,112 CRPF personnel have been quarantined, of which 2,285 have already completed the quarantine period. So far, 11,219 CRPF staff members have been tested for Covid-19. The total number of active cases in CRPF as of May 5 was 155, of which 152 are in Delhi, 2 in Noida and 1 in J&K. Twelve cases were added in the last day alone.

At BSF, of the 69 staff members who have tested positive so far, 67 are active cases under treatment. The cases span Delhi, Tripura and Kolkata. The cleanup of the BSF headquarters at the CGO Complex here is complete and the office will resume normal operation on Wednesday. Five main contacts of BSF staff, a police chief attached to a senior officer at headquarters, have been quarantined. This includes the senior officer as well. Eleven secondary contacts have also been identified and will be quarantined, the BSF said Tuesday.

At ITBP, 43 staff members from the ITBP battalion in Tigri, New Delhi tested positive for the pandemic. The unit was deployed for internal security tasks in New Delhi. Of these 2 they enter the Safdarjung hospital and 41 in the CAPF reference Hospital in. 76 people are under quarantine at the ITBP facility in Chhawla here. ITBP also began treating crown patients at the 200-bed CAPF Reference Hospital, Greater Noida. This hospital is now dedicated only to patients with a crown and patients from other central forces are admitted there. So far, 52 have been admitted, of which 44 are from ITBP and 8 from BSF.
