Gujarat: Uttar Pradesh migrant returning home by bicycle dies of fatigue near Karjan

VADODARA: A 36-year-old worker, who had cycled to his native, was found dead near the city, about 40 km from Vadodara, on Monday night.

Raju Sahni, a Kushinagar native of UP, was working with an engineering firm in Ankleshwar. Her younger brother told Karjan police that Sahni had become terribly nostalgic as there was no work due to the confinement. It started on Monday morning on his bike.

On Monday night, a man named Siraj Saiyed, who lives in the Vali Nagri village of Karjan, saw a body lying in bushes near the Jindal Rail Infrastructure Ltd. factory. He called 108 emergency services, but the paramedic told the dead man.

We saw the bike in the middle of the road and the unconscious man in the bushes with a backpack by his side, said Siraj, whose town is within walking distance of where Sahni's body was found.

Karjan police identified him with the Aadhaar card they found in his luggage. They also found the identity card of an engineering company he was working with in Ankleshwar, police sources said.

The autopsy revealed that Sahni died of heart failure due to cycling and heat. He had traveled a distance of about 60 km.

Sahni missed his family very much

He may have stopped to rest but died due to severe fatigue, said the Karjan police officer.

Her brother, who also works in the same company, accepted her body for the final rites. Police confirmed that Sahni had worked at the engineering company since the age of 16. As of Monday night, around 1,400 immigrants working in Bharuch had requested passes to return to their natives, but only 900 were issued. At least 40,000 migrant workers are employed in various factories in the district's industrial groups. Some units have gradually started operating and migrant workers have also returned to work there.
