In the unique concept, GM P Kannappan He said: The sports league is a concept that I have been very familiar with, since I lived in the United States where you had leagues for all sports. I was always wondering if we could replicate that format in India, and this is how this league idea happened.

The Indian league concept is similar to the Fide Online Nations Cup, with five players, necessarily including a woman and an under-16 player, comprising a team. All team members must play all rounds.

More than 25 Indian GMs will participate in the three-day event. Since chess players have no avenue to play in board events in the middle of the block, we were able to convince the best players to play in the online league format, Kannappan told TOI.

The average rating of a team must be greater than 2400 Elo according to the Fide standard rating list from May 1. A total of 10 teams will be allowed to participate in the league on a first-come, first-served basis.

After nine rounds, which have a 10-minute time control with a two-second increment per play, are played on May 15 and 16, an elimination match entitled 'Superfinal' will be played on the final day.

The total prize pool of the league will be Rs 40,000, and the winning team will be enriched by Rs 25,000.
