When Rahul Dravid asked Sanju Samson: Would you play for my team?
JAIPUR: Any cricket player who has had the privilege of rubbing elbows with the former India captain. Rahul Dravid , you have memories of him to appreciate. Sanju Samson is no exception.
Rahul Bhai and Zubin Bharucha were supervising the trials for Rajasthan Royals . I played a very good shot there, at the end of the second day, Rahul bhai came to me and asked, Would you play for my team? It was like a dream for me, for Rahul bhai to come and ask me to play for him, the Kerala right-handed hitter shared about his dream interaction with 'Rahul sir' during the Royals testing in 2013. Dravid has captained and mentored the Jaipur-based IPL franchise during its five-year period with them.
The sleek wicketkeeper-batsman, who has become a vital member of the Royals' set-up over time, added: I didn't play the first six games at IPL either. He always talked to him (Dravid) and other older players like Watson, Hodge and they learn from them. Even today, if I call him and ask him for help, he is always there to help me. Rahul sir is the most modest person I have ever met and he is available to all cricket players at any time.
Samson was speaking during a Rajasthan Royals podcast with New Zealand spinner Ish Sodhi , who is also part of the team as a spin consultant and operations executive.
England batsman Jos Buttler has a strong influence over Sanju who both happen to be specialist stumpers as well. I love to observe how cricketers like Jos Buttler, Ben stokes and Steve Smith prepare for games. I observe Jos especially, he too is a wicketkeeper-batsman. He's always working on his skills and his game and never sits idle. He's either working on his keeping, batting in the nets or running around the park. I love to observe and know how he thinks and prepares as a keeper before a game," said the 25-year-old about his Royals teammates.
