Covid-19 cases in BSF increase to 67; max in Delhi, Tripura
NEW DELHI: Covid-19 cases in the BSF border surveillance force have risen to 67, with the highest reported in a Delhi battalion, deployed in the Jamia area for law enforcement, and from the border state of Tripura officials said Tuesday.
Thirteen new positive cases of Covid have been reported from a force field in Tripura. These include 10 and three family members (wife and two children) of an infected soldier, a (BSF) said.
The number of cases in the border state of Tripura is 24 now, he said.
There have been 41 reported cases of units based in the national capital and one in Kolkata (driver of a vehicle escorting the central inter-ministerial team on the Union government tour).
Among the Delhi cases, 32 are from two units that were deployed in the Jamia and Chandni Mahal areas under instructions from law enforcement efforts, he said.
Eight cases are from a base hospital in R K Puram and personnel posted at the headquarters of the forces on Lodhi Road have contracted the virus, the spokesperson said.
Two floors of the BSF headquarters were sealed on Monday after this incident.
The official was attached to the office of an Additional Director General (ADG).
A licensed BSF staff has also been detected as Covid-19 positive, the spokesperson added.
The 2.5 lakh-strong force is primarily tasked with protecting Indian borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh, in addition to fulfilling a variety of duties in the country's internal security domain.
