Sensex jumps over 500 points; Nifty exceeds 9,400

MUMBAI: equity benchmark sensex More than 500 points soared in opening trade led on Tuesday by gains in heavyweights from the Reliance Industries Index, HDFC duo and ICICI Bank amid sparse trading in Asian markets.

After peaking at 32,264, the 30-share index was trading 431.74 points, or 1.36 percent higher at 32,147.09, and rose 114.25 points, or 1.23 percent, to 9,407.75.

ONGC was the top gainer in the sensex pack, rallying over 5 per cent, followed by M&m,bhartiairtel,indusindbank,icicibank,powergridandtechmahindra.
