Bengal has highest Covid-19 death rate, says core team

KOLKATA: It has the highest death rate in the country at 12.8 percent, the leader of the Central Inter-Ministerial Team (IMCT) wrote in his concluding remarks to the state secretary-general, before leaving for Delhi on Monday.

This extremely high death rate is a clear indication of low evidence, weak surveillance and follow-up, Chandra said in the letter.

A discrepancy was highlighted in the number of Covid-19 cases reported by the state in its medical bulletins and its communication with the Union government, Chandra said in the letter.

The team, led by Chandra, returned to the national capital after completing two weeks in the city.
