Punjab toll stations to resume collection from May 4: PWD minister

CHANDIGARH: Minister of Public Works Vijay Inder Singla On Sunday, it was reported that up to 23 operating places under the state government will resume collection from May 4 onwards.

The minister said toll operations were suspended on March 27 in view of the national closure and the suspension was extended from April 19 to May 3.

Singla said that toll authorities have also aimed to ensure social distancing, disinfection, frequent handwashing, the use of face masks, hand gloves and other preventive measures in terms of guidelines issued by the Union and the state government to contain the spread of COVID-19.

The PWD minister reported that orders in this regard have been issued by the department, but if any toll plaza is within the containment zone, toll operations will remain temporarily suspended at that particular toll plaza until may 17th.

He added that according to the consolidated guidelines of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Government of the Union, to date no state toll plaza is located within the containment area.

The minister said that in addition to providing free passage until May 3, state authorities at the toll plaza also provided langar (free cooked food) to truckers and drivers of emergency supply vehicles.
