J&K: LeT senior commander Haider killed in encounter with Handwara

HANDWARA: Pakistan's top Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander was neutralized here in a meeting, IG Kashmir Vijay Kumar said Sunday.

Lashkar-e-Taiba's top commander, Haider, of Pakistan, died in an encounter with Handwara, Kumar said.

Earlier in the day, the Army spokesman said two were neutralized in the encounter, which occurred between terrorists and security forces in the Handwara area on Saturday.

The team of 21 Rashtriya rifles had entered the home of a civilian to avoid a hostage situation when they were attacked by terrorists who had already arrived there.

While the four Army personnel, including a colonel and a commander, and the deputy police inspector lost their lives in the encounter, civilians trapped in the home were safely evacuated, they said.
