India adds 1,832 cases, 74 more to toll
NEW DELHI: The new Covid-19 in India shot up again on Thursday, crossing 1,800 for the second time in the week and dropping just eight less than Tuesday's peak of 1,840, while the number of deaths for the day remained above 70 for the second day in a row.
With 583 new cases, Maharashtra has now registered more than 10,000 coronavirus infections. The state count is 10,498, roughly equal to the following three states combined: Gujarat (4,395), Delhi (3,515), and Rajasthan (2,625).
While Maharashtra and Gujarat (313 new cases) reported almost the same number of new coronavirus infections as on Wednesday, the numbers increased in (162), (161) and Rajasthan (146). While Punjab and Tamil Nadu reported their highest daily numbers, the change was most dramatic in Punjab, which had reported only 34 cases on Wednesday. The increase was due to 142 pilgrims, who had returned from Nanded, testing positive.
Maharashtra recorded the maximum of 27 Covid deaths on Thursday followed by Gujarat (17), (11) and Madhya Pradesh (7). Delhi recorded three deaths, while UP and Rajasthan each had two.
With 1,832 new cases, the number of Covid-19 infections in the country is now below the 35,000 mark at 34,866.
Delhi's count now stands at 3,515 and 59 deaths.
Gujarat's figure reached 214 as 17 more deaths were recorded in 24 hours.
Madhya Pradesh registered 65 new cases of Covid-19 bringing its count to 2,625. Seven more deaths were reported, bringing the death toll to 137. Rajasthan also recorded three new Covid-19 deaths, bringing the number of deaths in the state to 58. It has now reported 497 cases of which 111 people are under treatment.
