Frontline personnel, among others infected with Covid-19 in Andhra Pradesh, the count crosses 1,000
AMARAVATI: Frontline workers involved in the battle against the spread of Covid-19, including doctors, were some of the recent cases of the virus reported by Andhra Pradesh Saturday, where the overall number crossed the 1,000 mark.
Two fatalities were reported, down to 31.
Overall positive AP cases were 1,016 on Saturday.
In Kurnool, two doctors working at the government general hospital and a deputy police inspector (SI) in the city of Vijayawada tested positive for the deadly virus, official sources said.
In addition, in Vijayawada, a deputy police inspector and 60 staff members were quarantined.
A scare was triggered at the Covid State Command Control Center in Vijayawada after a biomedical engineer working there tested positive on Friday.
Government officials, directly from the Special Chief Secretary (Health) have been operating from these facilities for more than a month, monitoring Corona's management measures across the state.
However, five other colleagues of the biomedical engineer tested negative for the virus.
These employees were attached to the AP Medical Infrastructure and Services Development Corporation.
The latest government bulletin said 26 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovery.
Significantly, the northern coastal district of Srikakulam also joined the list on Saturday, registering its first three cases after remaining infection-free all these days.
The district did not report a single Covid-19 case until Friday, sources added.
After Kurnool and the districts, Krishna is fast becoming the hotbed of the pandemic in the state as 25 new cases have been reported in the past 24 hours.
There was no decrease in the spread of Corona in Kurnool, as 14 more cases were added, bringing the total to 275.
Incidentally, the two districts recorded a new Covid-19 death each, according to the bulletin.
Vizianagaram is now the only district in AP that hasn't been affected by Covid-19, yet.
They registered five new cases in the last 24 hours, followed by Kadapa and SPS Nellore with four each and the Guntur districts 3 each.
AP is now second in Tamil Nadu in the number of Covid-19 cases, but first in the number of deaths (31) in South India. The first reported 1,755 cases and 22 deaths as of Friday.
According to official sources, the state is at the bottom of the five southern states in terms of recovery rate at 16.8 percent.
While Kerala is at the top with a 73.6 percent recovery, Tamil Nadu comes next with 49.3 percent.
AP still has 814 active coronavirus cases after discharge of 171 patients and death of 31.
Between Friday and Saturday, 6,928 samples were analyzed with the highest count per day so far, while the total number of tests to date was 61,266.
