As part of their 60th anniversary celebrations, Bangalore Small Theater is configured to present a rehearsed reading of the work Anklet , an adaptation of the classic Tamil Silappadikaram, by Ilango Adigal , on April 19 at 5 p.m. It is the story of the marriage of the young merchant Kovalan with the virtuous Kannagi, his love for the courtesan Madhavi and his subsequent ruin and exile in Madurai , where he is wrongfully executed after trying to sell his wife's anklet to an evil goldsmith, who had stolen the queen's anklet and accused Kovalan of the theft. The widow Kannagi then comes to Madurai, proves Kovalan’s innocence, then tears off one breast and throws it at the kingdom of Madurai, which goes up in flames.
