UP boy commits suicide, wants his father trapped in Kota for the last rites

BIJNOR: A Class IX student hung himself from a tree Monday morning in Uttar Pradesh after doodling a request on the bark, asking his father to knock down his body and perform the last rites. The 15-year-old's last wish has put his poor and distraught family in a bind as his father, a tailor, is trapped in the district, some 700 km away, due to the closure.

Now, the family of Shakir Ahmad, who committed suicide on the outskirts of his village in the Sherkot area, has asked the Rajasthan government to help bring his father back to the village.

The exact reason for Shakir's suicide is not yet known. Police said he was mentally disturbed, while the family claimed he was normal, but under some kind of spell that made him take the extreme step.

Sherkot Station House Officer (SHO) Sanjay Kumar said: Using a stone, the boy wrote on the bark of the tree that his body would be shot down in the presence of his father, Zulfikar Ahmad, who is in Kota in this moment. We couldn't let the body hang for that long, so they took it apart and sent it to an autopsy. Meanwhile, his family members are now trying to get permission from the Rajasthan government so that Zulfikar can attend his son's funeral.

A family member said Shakir used to bring firewood from the nearby forest.

“On Monday morning, he went to the forest on his cycle. But he did not return. Some passers-by saw him hanging and alerted everyone, ”he said.
