Andhra Pradesh: District collector declares 28-day closure in Srikalahasti

TIRUPATI: Following an increase in the number of positive coronavirus cases, collector Dr. Narayana Bharat Gupta declared a 28-day blackout period in the world-renowned pilgrim city starting Monday.

The announcement came from the district collector after two new cases of the new coronavirus were reported on Monday in the Srikalahasti constituency. The total number of Covid-19 cases in the Chittoor district has increased to 31.

The two patients who tested positive are family members of a Jamaat member who returned to the district and has been quarantined since then.

The district collector who held a review meeting with city officials in Srikalahasti instructed them to ensure that there are fool-proof sanitation measures. Officials were also ordered to enforce a strict closure in the Srikalahasti constituency, where five positive cases of COVID-19 were detected and were under treatment.

Speaking to reporters after the review, Dr. Narayana Bharat Gupta said the blockade will extend to the constituency regardless of any decision made at the national level.

'' We have a responsibility to prevent the new outbreak of the new coronavirus in the region. The first COVID-19 patient in the Chittoor district in the Srikalahasti area received treatment and was recently discharged. In addition to him, there are four positive cases reported here, and we must quickly isolate and quarantine all who came into contact with all COVID-19 positive patients in the constituency, '' he said.
