Terrorists kill SPO, critically injure another in Kishtwar
JAMMU: One special police officer (SPO) died and another was seriously injured after two attacked them with sharp weapons in the Tandar village of Dachan in the Kishtwar district, about 70 kilometers from the headquarters, on Monday and fled with their service weapons. The policemen were on duty when the attack took place.
and Vishal Singh, both residents of Kishtwar and in their past 20 years, were deployed to the Special Operations Group (SOG) police post in Tander, Dachan. On Monday, they went to the upper area to patrol when defendants Basharat Hussain and Ashiq Hussain, both from Tander, attacked the police with sharp weapons. SPO Iqbal was killed on the spot, while Singh was seriously injured. The terrorists fled with police service rifles, he said.
Ashiq Hussain was in jail in connection with a rape and kidnapping case. He was released on bail about 20 days ago, ”added the IGP.
Shortly after the attack, additional forces were dispatched and a search operation was launched in the area to track down the perpetrators, whose affiliation has yet to be determined. A rescue team was deployed to save, who was trapped in the mountainous terrain in a seriously injured condition. He was eventually flown in and hospitalized, but is still critical, police sources said.
This is the third such murder in Kishtwar in the past three years. Last April, RSS officer and health worker Chanderkant Sharma and his PSO were killed by terrorists, who also left with the killed PSO service rifle. In November 2018, BJP official Anil Parihar and his brother were killed in a similar terrorist attack.
Senior police officers, including Jammu IGP, Kishtwar SSP and other top officials rushed to the scene to assess the situation, Kishtwar Deputy Commissioner Rajinder Singh Tara said.
