#FightingCorona: Established times for the purchase of fruits and vegetables
This pandemic has undoubtedly disrupted public life. With 1,025 confirmed cases in Delhi, the government is trying to stop the jump in cases. One such government measure is to facilitate purchases of fruits and vegetables at Azadpur Mandi, the largest wholesale fruit and vegetable market in the country. The Delhi government has issued orders to sell vegetables and fruits according to the new moment. While the vegetables will be sold in the morning from 6 a.m. at 11 a.m., the fruits will be sold in the evening from 2 p.m. At 6 pm. The orders will be implemented from Monday.
Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal visited Azadpur mandi on Saturday, after which a series of meetings were held.
District Magistrate (North Delhi) and District Disaster Management Authority Chairman Deepak Shinde on Saturday approved an order saying a token system will be implemented for buyers entry into Azadpur mandi and sale of vegetables and fruits will be done in different shifts. At least three police officers will be deployed each shift. The joint team of mandi officers and police officers will have at least five officers.
The auction process will be completed in the marked circular area on the ground. All sheds will have a public address system to transmit the correct information. Appropriate police forces will be deployed at the entrance to control each and every person arriving at the mandi. The use of masks will be mandatory for all merchants, police, mandi officers, security personnel and workers. Strict measures will be taken against those who do not follow social distancing and other instructions.
Chairman of the Azadpur Agricultural Products Market Committee (APMC), Adil Ahmed Khan, told IANS that precautionary measures had already been taken in the mandi and that he had also written to the police to strictly implement it.
