Three arrested for playing cricket amid the confinement in Bombay
MUMBAI: In a flagrant violation of the case, an incident of a group of men playing cricket on terrain in the suburbs of Mumbai was noted, leading to the arrest of three people, police said Sunday.
An official said three others who were part of a group playing cricket on the field on Friday are fleeing.
Police are identifying others who were present on the ground for the cricket match.
The Deputy Police Commissioner (Port Zone) said that the police arrested Mukesh Jaiswal (28), Harish Saroj (42) and Aman Khan (19).
A case has been registered under section 188 (Disobedience to order duly promulgated by a public servant) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), another official said, adding that more arrests are likely.
A three-week national blockade to control the spread of the coronavirus has been in effect since midnight on March 24.
The police had also imposed section 144 of the CrPc ban assembly on five or more people in Mumbai.
The Maharashtra government extended the closure on Saturday, which was supposed to end on April 14, until April 30.
