Rs 30 million crore obtain Rs 28,256 million in financial assistance under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana

NEW DELHI: More than 30 million crore poor have received financial assistance of Rs 28,256 million under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana, announced by the Finance Minister last month to protect them from the impact of the 21-day national blockade.

As part of the Rs 1.70 lakh crore relief package, the government announced free food grains and cash for women and elderly and poor farmers to mitigate the difficulties they face due to the blockade.

More than 30 cr beneficiaries have received direct support through the direct transfer of benefits amounting to Rs 28,256 cr under #PradhanMantriGribKalyanPackage, a tweet from Finance Minister said.

Of the total disbursement, Rs 13,855 million was used to pay the first installment of PM-KISAN. Under the scheme, almost Rs 6.93 million from 8 million identified beneficiaries obtained Rs 2,000 directly from their account.

As many as 19.86 crore women account holders received Rs 500 each in their account. The total disbursement under the head was 9,930 crore, it said.

The National Program (NSAP) disbursed about Rs 1.4 billion rupees to approximately 2.82 million elderly, widowed and disabled people, the ministry added.

Each beneficiary received ex-gratia cash of Rs 1,000 under the scheme.

Up to 2.16 million construction workers received financial support from the Construction and Construction Worlers' Fund managed by state governments. Under this Rs 3,066 crore was delivered to the beneficiaries.

The government, under the government of Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Ann Yojana, is in the process of releasing 12 million MT of food grains during April-June.

It will provide 80 million crore @ 5 kg per head per month at no cost. The free rations have already reached 2 cr beneficiaries, the ministry said in another tweet.

The package included free LPG refills over the next three months to more than 8.3 million poor women in the Ujjawala regime and insurance coverage of Rs 50 lakh for health workers.
