Surat couple arrested for threatening a psychiatrist
SURAT: She has been counseling hundreds of patients suffering from aggravated anxiety and mental disorders at the New Civil Hospital after the coronavirus outbreak. But this female psychiatrist has been the victim of mental agony for the past two weeks after being subjected to discrimination and harassment by her neighbors.
In a video that has gone viral, a couple is seen living in the Rajhans View apartment in Adajan, exploiting Dr. Sanjibani Panigrahi and preventing her from going to NCH.
On Monday, the police made pre-trial arrests of Chetan Mehta and his wife Bhavna after the doctor filed a complaint request with the police.
Speaking to TOI, Panigrahi said: “Chetan pushed me into the house and when I started recording his bad behavior, he tried to take my mobile phone away from me. He threatened me with dire consequences and asked me to leave the apartment.
When I returned from the service on April 4, Chetan asked if he was infected with a crown and why he was going to the hospital. When I took out my cell phone to record his statement, he left. On the morning of April 5, I would go out with my pet dog and he would be standing outside my door. She started screaming that my dog tried to attack him, ”said Panigrahi, who lives with her husband and a three-year-old son in the rented apartment.
The doctor was warned not to come out
Previously, on March 23, some residents of the housing society severely warned her not to leave the complex and threatened to force her to leave the rented apartment. The doctor immediately tweeted about the incident to the PMO and sought help from BJP MLA Harsh Sanghavi.
After MLA and local police intervened, residents stopped harassing her, but Mehta's partner did not budge.
Adajan Police Inspector JB Bubadiya said: They begged us not to take action against them, but we arrested the duo to lead by example. They were reserved under section 151 of the IPC.
