Covid-19: PM directs officials to ensure sufficient availability of essential medical equipment
NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi On Saturday, he chaired a meeting of the various empowered groups established to respond to the coronavirus threat, and instructed officials to ensure they had all essential medical items such as personal protective equipment, masks and ventilators.
Modi reviewed readiness across the country regarding hospital availability, adequate isolation and quarantine facilities, as well as training in critical illness, testing and care, the Office of the Prime Minister (PMO) said.
At the joint meeting of empowered groups formed to plan and ensure the implementation of the Covid-19 response, the Prime Minister also directed interested groups and officials to ensure sufficient production, procurement and availability of all essential medical equipment Like PPE, masks, gloves and fans, the PMO said in a series of tweets.
The government last Sunday formed 11 empowered groups to suggest measures to speed up health care, get the economy back on track and reduce people's misery as quickly as possible after the 21-day blockade imposed to contain the coronavirus pandemic.
These groups are empowered to identify problem areas and provide effective solutions, outline policies, formulate plans, develop operations strategies and take all necessary measures for the effective and temporary implementation of plans, strategies or decisions in their respective areas, a notification issued by Interior Minister Ajay Kumar Bhalla had said.
Of these 11 empowered groups, nine are led by secretary-level officers, one by a member of NITI Aayog and one by the CEO of NITI Aayog.
The groups that were formed include a trained group on medical equipment and a management plan, a trained group on hospital availability, a trained group on essential medicines, medical equipment, a group trained to increase human resources by MSMEs. and a group trained to facilitate supply chain management and logistics.
In addition to them, the group empowered in coordination with private sector NGOs and international organizations, the group empowered in public complaints and suggestions, the group empowered in public awareness, the group empowered in technology, the group empowered in strategic issues related to the blockade and the group empowered in economy and welfare, It has been configured.
