8,000 Covid-19 samples tested, highest in a single day

NEW DELHI: The government said Friday that tests for Covid-19 will be based on criteria even when it said up to 8,000 samples were analyzed on Thursday, the most in one day so far.

The government maintained that its strategy is based on needs, and testing cannot be a confidence-building measure. The government is taking steps to increase hotspots and high-risk areas.

“For testing there is a particular process and guidelines. Testing can't be just a confidence-building measure, and that's also at a time when test kits will be limited. It may not be the right strategy, the joint secretary said Friday. There are currently 182 laboratories in the country that provide diagnosis for Covid-19.
