Lashkar module busted: 4 terrorists, 3 OGW arrested
SRINAGAR: Security forces detained a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) module on Friday in the southern city of Handwara, Kashmir, and arrested four terrorists and three ground workers (OGW) from the banned team. SRINAGAR: During the searches, the police confiscated a considerable amount of weapons and ammunition, in addition to several letters with letters LeT.
On Thursday and Friday night, the police carried out raids in the Kupwara and Baramulla districts and arrested the OGWs, identified as Azad Ahmad Bhat of Shalpore in the Langate of Kupwara, of Rafiabad in Sopore de Baramulla and in the Uri from Baramulla.
During questioning, police learned that LeT affiliates were motivating youth in the area to join the militancy by providing them with weapons and ammunition. They also supplied weapons to some who had recently joined the team and were operating in Handwara, a police officer said.
According to information provided by the OGW, a joint team of 21 RR, 30 RR, 92 Bn from the CRPF and Army Handwara police launched a search operation in the Gund Chogal village of Handwara early Friday and arrested four terrorists, identified as Parvaiz Ahmad Chopan, Mohammad Rafi Sheikh and Burhan Mushtaq Wani, all from the Tehsil Langate of Kupwara. The forces also confiscated three AK-47 rifles, eight AK-47 magazines, 332 AK bullets, 12 hand grenades, three pistols, six pistol magazines, 24 pistol bullets, and notebooks from the terrorist team.
Handwara Police have registered a case under the relevant sections of the IPC and the Illegal Activities (Prevention) Act. An investigation is underway, the officer said.
