The number of Covid-19 victims in India increases to 62, the cases to 2,547

NEW DELHI: The number of Covid-19 cases rose to 2,547 in the country on Friday, while the number of deaths rose to 62, registering a jump of 478 cases, according to data from the Union Ministry of Health.

The number of active Covid-19 cases is 2,322, while 162 people were cured or discharged and one had migrated, the ministry said.

In a data updated at 6 in the afternoon, six recent deaths were reported. Four were from Telengana and one from Gujarat and each.

Maharashtra has reported the highest number of deaths (16) so far, followed by Gujarat (8), Telengana (7), Madhya Pradesh (6), Punjab (5), Delhi (4), (3), (3), Jammu and Kashmir (2), Uttar Pradesh (2) and (2).

Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar and Himachal Pradesh have each reported one death.

The figure of 2,547 includes 55 foreign citizens.

In general, there is a gap between the ministry's data and the figures reported by different states due to some delays in the process of assigning individual figures to the states.

The largest number of confirmed cases of infection was reported from Maharashtra in 335 followed by Tamil Nadu with 309 infections and Kerela with 286 cases.

The number of cases in Delhi has increased to 219, in Uttar Pradesh to 172, in Rajasthan to 167, in Telengana 158 and Andhra Pradesh to 132.

Cases in Karnataka have increased to 124, Madhya Pradesh has reported 104 cases so far, Gujarat 95, while Jammu and Kashmir have 75 positive patients.

The number of cases increased to 63 in West Bengal. Haryana has reported 49 cases of Covid-19 so far, followed by Punjab with 48 cases.

Bihar has 29 cases, Chandigarh 18, 16 and Ladakh has reported 14 cases so far.

Ten cases have been reported from the Andaman and Nicobar islands.

Uttarakhand has reported 10 cases, while Chhattisgarh has nine positive patients.

Goa and Himachal Pradesh have reported six cases of coronavirus each. Odisha and Puducherry have five cases each.

Jhakhand and Manipur have reported two cases each, while Mizoram and Arunachal Pradeh have reported one case each.

The remaining 77 cases are reassigned to states for tracking contacts, the health ministry said on its website.
