#LifeInTheLockdown: This is the time to think of others and be useful, says Vishnu Vishal

A emergency shutdown does not mean our routines too come to a standstill. I am breaking down these 21 days of emergency shutdown time as small pockets so as to not be overwhelmed. As the saying goes, it takes 21 days to develop a habit. This is the time to learn something new. So, I’d suggest people to do whatever they like for at least one hour every day and come out of this emergency shutdown a better person with better skills.

During these sedentary times, I am looking to stay fit. Since we are inactive most of the time, the natural fat burning that occurs in our body when we run or walk every day has decreased. So, I am trying to maintain a high metabolism rate. My routine includes circuit workouts for all muscles every day.

By the end of these 21 days, I want to be able to cook rice, roti sabzi and maybe a chicken or mutton curry. I am learning the importance of self-sufficiency. For instance, I have started cleaning my own washroom. That was very new for me. That said, the emergency shutdown makes one sit up and take notice of privilege.

I am also trying to spend a lot of time with my parents. I am concerned about my parents and concerned about my son, whom I cannot see at the moment. Fortunately, we have a place to stay and food to eat. There are so many who depend on daily wages. So, I'm doing a lot of introspection.

I have given wages to most of our domestic help. We have also requested that two of them stay with us. We all eat together and stay safe at home ... because it's my responsibility to keep them safe. I also told my office workers to use the facilities to stay. I'm also helping them buy groceries and other essential items. I think this is the time for us to think of others and be useful.

I'm usually a person who doesn't watch many movies. But I am using this time to catch up on many titles that I have missed. I love action thrillers. So, I saw Taken 3 and some TV shows in the genre. I saw Contagion to better understand this COVID-19 scenario and also Malayalam Ayyappanum Koshiyum movie. Sivakarthikeyan's hero is on my watch list.
