Theatrical fraternity unites to help needy workers

Actors and theater directors have come together to raise money to help theater workers. Not just the technicians and they mark the beginning of Kolkata, they are also trying to communicate with workers from other districts. Along with veteran theater workers like Shantilal Mukherjee , Kaushik Sen, Asit Basu, Kheyali Dastidar and others, the younger generation, including Anirban Bhattacharya , Rwitobroto Mukherjee , Riddhi Sen, Surangana Bandyopadhyay, Ujan Chatterjee and others joined together to raise money.

Veteran theater workers, Sekhar Chakraborty, Amitabha Dutta , Dilip Dutta, Sima Mukhopadhya, Bimal Chakraborty and Bilu Dutta started the collection. “We have started listing the names and disbursing the money. We cannot offer much. But something is better than nothing, Kaushik Sen said. As of now, approximately 35 people received some money in their account.

“Conventionally, theatre cannot be held without social gatherings. Grom rehearsing to staging — everything is live. It is sad that we do not have any infrastructure that can help these theatre-dependent families in such a crisis. We are not doing something great. These people deserve a lot more. This is the most obvious thing to do,” said Rwitobroto. In fact, Arindam Ganguly, on behalf of Artist Forum, came forward and pitched in the fund. “Artist Forum has already initiated programmes to help the Tollywood technicians . We are indebted to Arindam that the forum came forward and donated Rs 1 lakh to the theatre fund also,” said Kaushik.
