'Accept the challenge': Pullela Gopichand urges India to join in the fight against COVID-19
NEW DELHI: Badminton national head coach and icon Gopichand has urged his fellow Indians to join in the country's fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
Our country has been in a confinement. In these difficult times, it is important that we act sensibly. Stay home, he said in a video message to Timesofindia.com.
Gopichand, who is credited with shaping the career of the best Indian ferries, including world champion and Olympic silver medalist PV Sindhu, has been strictly following the 21-day blockade imposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 25 March.
In the video, Gopichand could be seen juggling three balls, something he wanted to learn from his childhood. With sports activities in the country on hold and free time available, the former All England champion is trying to remove that wish from his wish list.
I always wanted to juggle since I was a child. In the last 10 days, I learned to juggle three (balls). Hopefully, in the next 10 days, I'll be able to add another one, Gopichand said. .
He also emphasized the importance of fitness and positivity to overcome this medical emergency.
I think it is important to stay happy, stay fit, and be positive. These are difficult times, and we have to accept the challenge. Stay safe, stay home, he concluded.
