The Press Council asks the media to ensure the dissemination of verified news about the coronavirus outbreak

NEW DELHI: The Council of India on Wednesday urged to responsibly ensure the spread of the verified coronavirus outbreak, based on the government's daily bulletin following the Supreme Court directive on the matter.

The media watchdog cited the Supreme Court directive calling on the media to maintain a strong sense of responsibility and to ensure that unverified news stories capable of causing panic are not broadcast.

The print media is required to take note of the Supreme Court directives, he said.

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court ordered that to verify false news, the government activate a system of daily bulletins regarding the COVID-19 pandemic within 24 hours through all media channels, including social media and forums for clear people's doubts.
