106 new cases of coronavirus, six reported deaths from six states in the last 24 hours: Ministry of Health

NEW DELHI: On Sunday, 106 new cases and six deaths from six states were reported in the past 24 hours.

The undersecretary of the ministry, Lav Agarwal, has so far said that there are 979 confirmed cases in the country, including 25 deaths.

R Ganga Ketkar, of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), said until Sunday that 34,931 tests were done for the infection.

Capacity utilization on the ICMR network is around 30 percent. We have increased the number of laboratories, 113 have been put into operation and 47 private laboratories have been approved for COVID-19 testing, he said.

Undersecretary of the Interior Ministry Punya Salila Srivastava said that employers should be instructed to give full wages to workers on the due date without any deduction for the closed period and landlords cannot collect rent for this period.

He also said that workers cannot be forced to leave the premises.

SPs and DMs will be personally responsible for its strict implementation, Srivastava said, referring to orders issued to stop the mass exodus of migrant workers.

He also said states were instructed to seal the borders.

Agarwal said the ongoing 21-day blockade has resulted in some behavioral and mental health issues, and NIMHANS has released a toll-free number, 08046110007, for consultation.

When asked to provide the number of patients currently on the ventilator, he said the data was being monitored statewide.
