Daniel Ricciardo driven by a strong weekend in Canada

Daniel Ricciardo hopes to do a show at Renault's house Grand Prix of France this month after the team doubled the number of points of its season on Sunday Grand Prix of Canada .

The Australian finished sixth in Montreal, the seventh race of the year, with a German teammate. Nico Hulkenberg a seventh closing.

The weekend as a whole was quite impressive. Fourth classified, finished sixth, said Ricciardo.

I'm sure you told (team leader) Cyril (Abiteboul) before the weekend how does this result sound? I probably would have kissed you. I think we have to be really happy with that.

Renault was eighth in the championship before the seventh round of the season, but advanced to fifth place, with 28 points and only two behind. McLaren who use the same engines.

Sunday was the team's first double point in the campaign.

The next race is Le Castellet on June 23, with Renault hoping to show clear progress by then, after a difficult start to the season.

Abiteboul told reporters in Monaco last month that Renault had solved a fundamental engine problem that had slowed both Ricciardo and Hulkenberg and were now back in full power.

No doubt, now we have some momentum and the last weekends have been stronger, said Ricciardo, who joined Red Bull at the end of last season. We have some new pieces to come.

The Australian said he had also been encouraged to keep Mercedes Valtteri Bottas , second in the championship to teammate Lewis Hamilton , behind a series of laps and making him fight to pass.

I think the encouraging thing was definitely a couple of elbows with Bottas, he said. Our straight line speed is certainly much more competitive in race conditions. There are many positive things to take.

We will see how we are going to France. (Hopefully) for Renault fans, we can achieve another good one.
