Atlético de Madrid and Sevilla share loot in the 2-2 draw

MADRID: Atletico Madrid lost the opportunity to be back in the top four in the league when they had a 2-2 entertaining draw with third place Seville following a frantic first half.

Seville went ahead in the 19th minute through Dutch striker Luuk de Jong but Atletico levelled with a penalty from Alvaro Morata in the 32nd after a VAR review determined that Seville 's Diego Carlos had handled the ball.

Atletico took the lead four minutes later with a heavily deflected shot from Joao Felix, only for Seville 's Lucas Ocampos to level from the spot right before halftime after another VAR review decided he had been fouled by Kieran Trippier.

Diego Simeone's side went all out for a winner after the interval but were unable to get past Seville 's impressive keeper Tomas Vaclik and had to settle for a draw which left them fifth on 45 points after 27 games. Seville are third on 47.

He left the left back Renan Lodi as a precaution, since the Brazilian suffered a muscle injury, but he had a full strength team that played with more joy in the attack than in recent weeks, but also left more holes in the back.

Atletico goalkeeper Jan Oblak did well to take a shot from Sergio Reguilon just as he was about to cross the goal line in the first half, after De Jong slipped into the area and gave the visitor a blunt lead.

His opposite number remained busier in the second half, denying Yannick Carrasco with a brilliant save, although the Belgian striker should have scored moments later from close range, but missed the target.

Diego Costa and Saúl Niguez were also unable to evaluate Vaclik in the final stages, as Atlético registered a third draw in four league games.
