52 laboratories made functional throughout India for coronavirus testing

NEW DELHI: Following the 34 confirmed cases of coronavirus in India so far, the Union Ministry of Health has put into operation 52 laboratories to analyze samples, while 57 laboratories have been designated to assist in the collection of COVID samples -19 to improve the ability to diagnose and detect the disease.

Following the increase in the burden of detecting samples of suspected cases with symptoms and a history of travel to affected countries, the Department of Health Research/ICMR has commissioned 52 laboratories for COVID-19 tests in India, an official said.

In Andhra Pradesh, the laboratories of the Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences in Tirupati, the Andhra Medical College in Visakhapatnam and GMC, Anantapur have been put into operation, while in Assam, the laboratories in the Gauhati Medical College in Guwahati and the Regional Center Medical Research, Dibrugarh have been activated.

In Bihar, Rajendra Memorial Research Institute of Medical Sciences, Patna In Chandigarh, the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research and AIIMS in Chhattisgarh have designated laboratories.

In Delhi, the installation of sample tests has been made available at AIIMS and the National Center for Disease Control, while in Gujarat, facilities are available at BJ Medical College in Ahmedabad and at MPShah Government Medical College in Jamnagar.

National Institute of Virology, Field and Government Unit. Faculty of Medicine, Thriuvananthapuram and Govt. Medical College, Kozhikhode has testing laboratories in Kerala.
