Double delight for the railways in Kabaddi Senior
JAIPUR Indian railways He continued his dominance in Kabaddi with male and female teams that won the gold medal in 67 Kabaddi National Senior Championship for the second consecutive year here on Friday. In a highly contested men's final, the defending Railways champions survived a scare before prevailing over the Services 29-27.
With the attack unit struggling to fire, the experienced defense of the Railways came to the fore. Ravinder Pahal , Dharmaraj Cheralathan & Sunil Kumar scored four tackle points amongst themselves to start the half, leaving Services with just two men on the mat. Both captains Rohit Kumar (Services) & Pawan Sehrawat (Railways), who play together for Bengaluru Bulls in Pro Kabaddi League, endured some anxious moments in the neck-and-neck battle before the latter lifted the trophy for the second time in a row.
"We weren't taking too much pressure upon ourselves & the opposite team was also equally good... We did face a few problems as all three raiders were being tackled but that didn't affect our team too much as the defence was playing well. Throughout the tournament both the raiders & defenders complimented each other well & that is why I believe we have emerged victorious," Sehrawat said later.
Previously, Railways beat Rajasthan hosts 46-23 in the first semifinal with Sehrawat leading the team to victory with 14 raid points. In the second semifinal, the Services stamped their authority over Uttar Pradesh with a 49-31 victory. Nitin Tomar was at the peak of his powers with 13 raid points.
In the women's section, Sonali Shingate's exceptional performance of 13 raid points helped the Railways defend their title with a 40-34 victory over Himachal Pradesh. While Railways beat Jharkhand 39-18 in the first semifinal, Himachal defeated Haryana 34-22 in the second.
