Kolkata: Victoria Memorial Hall will have room for mothers and children
CALCUTE: As an extension of the International Women's Day celebration on March 8, (VMH), Kolkata, is opening a room for mothers and children (Nursing Room) on Friday, March 13 at 4 pm. This room, adjacent to the entrance hall of the room, is where nursing mothers can rest a little in a private space while breastfeeding their children.
This is part of our ongoing effort to make the museum more inclusive and friendly for people with diverse challenges. As the then Director in Charge, I had the privilege of opening such a room in the Indian Museum in May 2017. Since then, the introduction of a similar installation in the VMH has been in progress, and now it is finally happening, much later than what I should, but hopefully not too late, said the secretary and curator of VMH.
At the same time that day, we are also inaugurating our last exhibit of the Object of the month, a Rajput miniature of Rani Padmini (Padmavati) tying a turban on his head, surrounded by his companions. This painting, which has just left our reserves, will be displayed in the Prince Hall on the south side of the museum, he added.
