Review of the operation of the eight DRSCs managed by the RS secretariat, which have 244 members (166 of the Lok sabha and 78 from Rajya Sabha), Naidu said they held 20 meetings during the three-week parliamentary recess. The highest attendance was recorded in the meetings of the health and family welfare committee (65.5%), while the lowest attendance was in the DRSC dedicated to trade (32.3%). Parliament meets for sufficient time each year: Vice President
BJP, with a force of 110 parliamentarians out of 244 who are members of the permanent parliamentary committees (DRSC) related to the department, had a total attendance of 58% against 62% of Congress assistance with only 32 parliamentarians. The smaller regional parties, which represent the remaining members, had a cumulative attendance of 40%.
The RS has DRSC that deal with commerce, health and family welfare, home affairs, HRD, industry, personnel, public claims and law and justice, science and technology and the environment , and transport, tourism and culture. The RS president said: “In general, the work done by the 24 DRSCs in examining the subsidy demands of all the ministries is equivalent to 30 days of Parliament's operation, which is quite significant. This only takes the total sessions of Parliament for one year to more than 100 days. I would like to assure individuals and all interested parties that Parliament meets for a sufficient time each year to fulfill its functions.
But Naidu expressed disappointment that 95 (78 of the LS and 23 of the RS) of the 244 members in the eight DRSCs with the Upper House had zero assistance this time compared to only 28 last time.
